The city of Yuma is located in Yuma County, in the southwestern part of the state of Arizona. It sits on the banks of the Colorado River and borders the country of Mexico. The metropolitan Yuma area is home to about 194,000 residents. All of the hotels Yuma offers are conveniently located near the area's attractions.

The Visitor Information Center is located at Yuma Quartermaster Depot State Historic Park. It is open from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Tuesday through Sunday and offers an abundance of information, including pricing and directions for local attractions.

The 10-acre Yuma Quartermaster Depot State Historic Park was once a supply lifeline for the territory. Five of the original buildings still stand and are open for self-guided tours: the Corral House, the Quartermaster's House and Kitchen, the Quartermaster's Office, the Water Reservoir and the Warehouse. The park is open from Tuesday to Sunday, 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Admission is free.

The Castle Dome Mines Museum contains artifacts and exhibits that detail the history of this once prosperous mining area. Thirty-seven restored buildings populate the property and illustrate what life was like for the people who lived and died at the mines. The museum is open every day from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

The Cocopah Museum and Cultural Center, located about 10 miles southwest of Yuma, in Somerton, contains exhibits and artifacts that detail the history and culture of the Cocopah Native American tribe. It is open from Monday to Friday, 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Guided tours are available but must be arranged in advance. Admission is free.

The Yuma Territorial Prison State Historic Park contains a Visitor's Center and a 3,600 square foot museum. The original cellblocks, guard tower and prison yard are still standing and are open to self-guided tours. The park also features picnic areas, with beautiful views of the Colorado River. The park is open Thursday through Monday, from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

The 28-acre Yuma Conservation Garden is home to a plethora of native plants, a duck pond and walking trails. Guided tours of the gardens may be arranged in advance by phoning the garden directly.

The Pivot Point Interpretive Plaza is an outdoor area that contains exhibits, a museum and displays that detail the history of the Yuma Crossing National Historic Landmark. It is also home to a steam locomotive, a nightly laser show and a mutli-use pathway along the riverbank. It is open every day from 6:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m.

There are a variety of tour opportunities available for visitors to the area. River rafting tours, segway tours, hot-air balloon rides, sand buggy trail rides, fishing tours, pedicab rides, farm tours, kayak tours and boat rentals are all offered.

There are three nearby casinos: the Cocopah Casino and Resort in Somerton, the Paradise Casino in Winterhaven and the Quechan Casino and Resort, also in Winterhaven. The Quechan Casino and Resort is the biggest, offering 1,000 machine games as well as table games and a poker room.

The annual Gathering of the Gunfighters takes place at Yuma Territorial Prison State Historic Park every January. Wild West skits are performed by locals and judged, with prizes awarded to the winner. Since 1947, the Yuma Jaycees Silver Spur Rodeo has taken place the second week of February. It includes competitive rodeo activities such as bullfighting, roping and barrel racing. Every spring, the County Fair takes place. It includes games, rides, live entertainment, livestock shows and auctions, a petting zoo and a demolition derby. From January through the end of April every year, the Village Jazz Series takes place on Thursday nights from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the city's Palms Regional Center. The performances are free and picnicking is encouraged.

The average low in the winter is about 47 degrees Fahrenheit and the average high is around 70 degrees. Springtime lows are generally around 61 and the high is about 89 degrees. In the summer, the low averages about 80 and the high climbs to a very warm 105 degrees. In the fall, the low is around 65 and the high gets up to around 90 degrees.
